ABOUT ME

I am a certified ESL tutor and have been one with Reading Works for over 6 years. I did that part-time while working with the Forest Service before retiring there. I am triingual in the English, Spanish and Hungarian languages. I am an America native English speaker and reside in California, USA. I currently take Skype online with an Hungarian tutor who is a native Hungarian speaker who resides in Budapest, Hungary.

               Before tutoring in the English language and before retiring in the computer industry I graduated with a BA in English. I was also at various times a part-time teacher with computer schools during my computer job. Later while in the Computer industry I was a full-time teacher in subjects regarding computers. After retiring I served as a substitute teacher in grades K through 12. I then decided to expand my understanding about tutoring in the English language and graduated with a Master’s degree whose focus was in ESL.  At that time I also obtained my TESOL certification.

My tutoring approach is to use various  techniques such as Total Physical Response (TPR), Negation, Substitution etc. Also, if there is a problem with engaging the student(s) I use games and other ice breaking activities that teach the student(s) english as well as get them to engage in the learning process.

I’ve had many different jobs throughout my career but a continuing thread throughout my life has been my love of teaching as well as my love of languages.
